DISTRICT TRIBAL WELFARE DEPARTMENT

The Tribal Welfare. Deptt. has envisaged the multi-directional Development activities with a view to developing the present statra of status of the tribal people -especially in the South Tripura district where 4 special area based projec have been under taken within this jurisdiction. They are located at Paharpur, Duluma (Amarpur) Lowgong Chellagong (Amarpur) Tekka-Tulsi (Sabroom) & Kaptali (Sabroom).

The other activities are providing boarding house stipend, pre-metric scholarship , stipend to trainees, (.I.T.I., G & M) sponsoring student out site the state , Book-grant-cum-Outfit allowance, merit award, inter-hostel competition for sports & games, Vignan-Darshan for Jumia etc.

There are good number boys & girls' hostel for S/T (30 boys Govt., 11- Grills -govt., 6 - boys/girls -NGO). Recently, an outlay of Rs. 2.37 crores has been placed with the PWD to construction " 420 seated Eklabya Residential School at Birchandramanu of Belonia Sub-Division of this district". The Hon'ble Minister, Commissioner, & DM & Collector are constantly supervising the above. The work will be finished probably with in 31ist July 2003

In the last financial year, 46 market stall have been constructed in different sub-division in order to provide the opportunity of business for the tribal youth specially who has under gone the training in the programme of "Vocational Training". They are basically trained in Electronics goods like- T.V., watch, Radio etc machinery, carpenter, Auto-mobile engineering etc. Under nucleus budgets schemes, The tribal patient are being treated and number of health camp are being conducted by the SDMS in order to help tribal people of remote areas, for whom it is a very difficult task to come for their treatment frequently in the urban areas. We have number of tribal rest houses for the night halt of tribal people especially for getting medical treatment and during the traditional festival. Under special nutrition programme, malnourished –children of tribal areas are being fed with thiese S.N.P. Centre to boost up the quality of health. During last year, approx. Rs. 22.00 lakhs was distributed amongst the BDO's for making pucca-kitchen of their respective jurisdiction.

The other programme of plantation of crop like Rubber, Banana, pineapple tea (for tea based) is going on in the different sub divisions..
